New board of trustees grants 3 million euros for Brandenburg's nature!
Templin, Deutschland - In Brandenburg, a new chapter for nature conservation is currently being opened. At the constituent meeting of the newly appointed foundation council of the Nature Conservation Fund Brandenburg, it was decided to release more than three million euros for various nature conservation projects. Hanka Mittelstädt, the Minister of Agriculture and Nutritional Economics, Environment and Consumer Protection, presented the eleven volunteers of the board of trustees to the Charming City of Templin. The Board of Trustees will deal with the basic affairs of the nature conservation fund in the next five years and is responsible for benefits over 150,000 euros, such as Cityreport reports.
The previous balance of the nature conservation fund is impressive: Since its foundation, the foundation has launched over 1,300 projects in Brandenburg with a total volume of almost 230 million euros. At the most recent session, important measures for the Spree-Neisse water association were decided. Here the renaturation of the Reuthen shaft pond in the municipality of Felixsee receives 285,000 euros in order to create urgently needed habitats for endangered amphibians.
A look at future projects
But that's just the beginning. A particularly ambitious project called Frog (promotion, revitalization and optimization of (small) waters) now starts in the Elbe-Elster district. In cooperation with the Ökohof Gothsgarten, three small waters have already been created that will offer optimal conditions for a wide variety of types of amphibian. The aim of the project is to create a total of 74 small waters as well as three rivers and a bog between Prignitz and Elbe-Elster in the next few years. Measures for exposure to the ponds are planned and the planting of trees along the shores are planned. Around nine million euros are to be invested in amphibian protection and water retention, financed by replacement payments from the causes of nature and landscape interventions, as reported by the Naturpark Magazin.
The region around Falkenberg/Elster offers excellent conditions for amphibians such as the red stonewish or the moor frog. The support of Highland cattle, which graze on the newly created bank areas, is to be prevented from growing the waters. This is just one of many projects that are in the pipeline and aim to strengthen biodiversity in Brandenburg and to maintain the habitat for endangered species.
The role of the foundation council
The Board of Trustees of the Nature Conservation Fund includes representatives of ministries, nature conservation advisory boards and municipal umbrella organizations. In the context of the increasingly urgently needed measures for nature conservation, it is of great importance that these experienced personalities set the course for the upcoming projects. In addition to the financial promotion of nature conservation projects, the implementation of international species protection regulations, such as the unit N4 of the state environmental authority, also plays an essential role. Among other things, this presentation is responsible for wolf management, which is increasingly becoming the focus of the nature conservation policy discussion (Brandenburg State Environmental Authority).
Overall, the fresh wind, which the new members of the foundation council bring with it, represents a great opportunity for nature conservation in Brandenburg. The decisive measures and projects will now be continuously addressed in the coming years, and we can be excited to see what progress will be made. It remains to be hoped that the joint commitment of the actors can noticeably improve the habitats of domestic flora and fauna.
