Record year: 12 international projects strengthen Uckermark partnerships!
The last few months have been a real fireworks display of activities and projects in the region. How nordkurier.de reports, the year 2024 was one of the most active in the club's history, with a total of twelve projects that spanned four partner cities: Barlinek in Poland, Uster in Switzerland, Varėna in Lithuania and numerous other cross-cutting activities.
With thunderous success
The first lake walk around the Unteruckersee in March was particularly striking, attracting over 120 participants, including 41 walking enthusiasts from Barlinek. It was impressive to see how new contacts were made despite adverse weather conditions. But the international connection was also noticeable at the Prenzlau city festival in June 2024, when six alphorn players from Uster gave a spontaneous concert in St. Mary's Church. Such moments show how important cultural cooperation is and that togetherness can be maintained even in times of challenges.
The region was also active in sports. Five athletes from TSV 62 Prenzlau took part in the 45th Greifenseelauf in Uster, and at the 50th Berlin Marathon there were even 17 runners from Prenzlau and Uster who started together. Particularly noteworthy is the encouraging increase in the 10th Uckermark Roland Run, which set a new record with 344 participants.
Future-oriented partnerships
The association's financial situation remains stable thanks to prudent budget management and targeted funding for international meetings. Chairwoman Susanne Schütte has already announced that cooperation with Barlinek, Uster and Varėna will continue. Not only new projects are planned, but also smaller exchange formats in schools and clubs.
In this context, it is important to look at the diverse municipal partnerships. A comprehensive database, such as those on rgre.de can be found, lists almost 7,000 connections of German municipalities worldwide. This platform, which is supported by the German Section of the Council of Municipalities and Regions of Europe, offers an excellent opportunity to find out about existing partnerships and make new contacts.
Active for the future
Furthermore shows giz.de, how important it is that municipalities play a central role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. They not only design infrastructure and public services, but are also significantly involved in political participation and democratic developments. The municipal partnerships mentioned here help cities and communities develop local solutions to global challenges.
By supporting selected municipalities, they can achieve important goals, for example in the areas of waste management, climate protection or e-governance. The next city council meeting will present the annual report on June 26th, which will show how these networks and partnerships are also important in the Brandenburg region.
It remains to be seen what new challenges and opportunities will be presented to citizens in the coming period. One thing is certain: cooperation with international partners will remain an important part of regional development in the future.
