Help Julian: New fundraising campaign for urgently needed family car!
In Germany, more and more young people are facing the challenge of fighting serious illnesses. A particularly touching example is Julian Staß from St. Wendel, who was diagnosed with brain tumor at the age of just six. Due to a long treatment path with chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Julian went through a lot and is 14 years old today. Despite the challenges, he has achieved countless successes and collected a total of 18 medals for avoiding sedations during MRI examinations, each of which lasts an hour and a half. During this time, Julian likes to hear audiobooks to distract himself. With a new family car that is suitable for his wheelchair, his everyday life could improve significantly. Julian needs help due to his illness in everyday life and is partly dependent on a wheelchair. Its old small car can no longer transport the wheelchair, and so the Lützelsoon support association started a call for donations to help the family and buy a new vehicle. The Saarbrücker Zeitung supports this call with a direct donation of 10,000 euros, which was emotionally recognized by Julian's mother Katja. Part of the donation comes from an excess of an earlier wheelchair campaign.

But not only Julian fights against cancer. In neighboring Kleve, 13-year-old Jan Luca Thomas has also received a difficult diagnosis: a medulloblastoma, a malignant tumor in the cerebellum. The symptoms occurred in January 2023 and should initially be diagnosed as migraines, but the signs worsened. A mandarin -sized tumor was only discovered in autumn 2024 after Jan Luca was brought to Bocholt in children's neurology. The treatment is difficult because the tumor could not be completely removed due to its location. Jan Luca is currently undergoing ray and chemotherapy, which has already led to hair loss; Together with his father, he shaved his hair. Despite this adversity, Jan Luca remains optimistic and has not given up his passion for fishing, where he has even won prices.
The fire brigade in Kleve, in which he is active with his father, supported the young fighter with a surprise event in which he was picked up with a fire engine. A call for donations from Maik Thomas has already brought around 33,000 euros for barrier -free conversions and wheelchair ramps that are supposed to make family life more adaptable.
background to illness
As the health statistics show, around 60 children and adolescents under the age of 18 fall ill in Germany on a medulloblastoma, which corresponds to approximately five new cases per million children. The most common symptoms found in young people affected include headaches, nausea and neurological failures. Many of these children have to undergo intensive treatment and often have long distances to regain their health.
The quality of life of young cancer patients is severely impaired and the challenges they bring with them are enormous. Information on treatment approaches and forecasts can offer parents valuable support, such as the resources provided by the experts of the German Childhood Cancer Registration. It is particularly important that those affected and their families are not left alone in this difficult time.
The fates of Julian and Jan Luca are the testimony of how strong the community can be when it comes to providing help and support. Whether through donation actions or personal help - every contribution counts to give such families perseverance and hope.
