Hennigsdorf celebrates 650 years: town festival causes road closures!

The city of Hennigsdorf is facing a special event: from June 27th to 29th, 2025, the 650th anniversary will be celebrated with a colorful event Firmly celebrated. The festival area, which is divided into four different thematic areas and shows the development of the city, stretches along the historic center, between the new town hall and the Martin Luther Church. Preparations are in full swing and Mayor Thomas Günther (SPD) emphasizes the role of citizens in urban development.

There will be closures in the city area from June 26th. The area of Am Rathaus street will be closed to traffic from June 27th at 8 a.m., while a parking ban in this area will come into force on June 26th from 8 a.m. Friedhofstraße will also be closed from the same date and time. Visitors should be prepared for the fact that parking options at the new town hall and in the surrounding streets are severely limited as these are reserved for the festival.

Looking forward to attractions and programs

The anniversary celebration is designed as a “journey through time” that brings visitors closer to the history of Hennigsdorf. Various attractions are planned, including a historic fishing village with play opportunities for children, medieval showmen and craftsmen and an area dealing with industrialization. There will be exciting attractions related to steel and rail. Visions of the future can be discovered at the S-Bahn station with a diverse stage program.

Over 20 local clubs and companies as well as around 100 active participants provide entertainment. The highlights of the festival are the opening on June 27th, which is associated with the awarding of the 2025 City Prize, and the musical performances by the “Swingin’ Hermlins”. The following evening, the band “Larkin” plays Irish folk music, while a family choir presents a Hennigsdorf song composed especially for the festival.

Parking options and arrival

The city recommends festival visitors to arrive by bike. Free bicycle parking spaces are available at the train station. If you still come by car, you can use the parking spaces at the swimming pool, at the Blauer Wunder and at the new collective locking system on the embankment, which can be used free of charge on Saturday and Sunday. The key can be picked up at the city planning stand on the festival grounds.

Visitors can also travel by public transport to avoid the parking bans. For those who want to explore the surrounding area, there are additional parking spaces on Heinestrasse and Hafenstrasse. However, these are subject to a fee.
