The Spreewelten Bahnhof in Lübbenau will celebrate a big celebration on January 9th, 2026: it has been 20 years since the historically important building was revived as a tourist and cultural destination. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. everyone is invited to take a look behind the scenes at an open day and enjoy the colorful program on offer on this special day. What a reason to celebrate!
Originally built in 1878, the station lost its importance in the late 1990s and stopped charming people for a long time. The turning point finally came in 2005: Deutsche Bahn sold the listed building to WIS Wohnungsbaugesellschaft im Spreewald mbH for 1.3 million euros. Art and culture at the train station
The guesthouse “Sleeping in a Work of Art” is a real highlight of the Spreewelten train station. It offers eleven individual art rooms designed by various artists. Each room focuses on an element of the unique cultural landscape around Lübbenau - be it trains, water or the popular cucumbers. Visitors immerse themselves in the legendary world of the Spreewald and can immerse themselves in this creative atmosphere during their stay. A big advantage of this guesthouse: free rental bicycles are available to guests at any time, so they can explore the area on their own. But staying overnight isn't the only reason to visit the train station. The Spreewelten has now become a central meeting point for tourists and locals. The train station is an important junction between the old and new towns of Lübbenau and offers classic travel services as well as gastronomy. Above all, the connection to the surrounding lagoon-like floodplain landscape of the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve makes it a perfect starting point for excursions in the land of a thousand rivers and coasts. Here you can sail through nature, relax and leave everyday life behind in the fairytale waterways and enjoy the beauty of the region.
