Comfort for seniors: New wooden loungers inaugurated in the Forster outdoor pool!

Two new wooden loungers have recently been installed in the shaded area of Forst's popular outdoor pool. These loungers provide comfortable seating and lying options for older bathers, especially those with limited mobility. The initiative comes from the Seniors' Advisory Board, which financed this measure together with Stadtwerke Forst GmbH. They were officially handed over to the city on July 15, 2025 and are now available to make the stay in the outdoor pool more pleasant, especially for guests who rely on walkers. The wooden loungers are permanently installed and offer a good alternative to the uncomfortable meadow, which often offers little shade in the warm season.

Among those present at the handover were the managing director of Stadtwerke Forst GmbH, Jörg Makowski, as well as the senior citizens' advisory board headed by Helmut Ließ, the mayor Simone Taubenek and Julian Arzt, head of the swimming pool team. The Forst (Lausitz) city administration is pleased with this commitment and invites other companies to participate in financing additional loungers. The focus here is clearly on the well-being of the older generation.

Active for seniors in the forest

The senior citizens' advisory board is also committed to supporting older citizens in Forst. Various events are planned in the coming months that revolve around senior-friendly living and road safety. A general meeting takes place with the managing director of the Forster housing association, in which senior-friendly living is discussed. This event is scheduled for March 6, 2025 in the fireplace room of the “Quartier am Berliner Platz”.

Another highlight is the road user training, which will take place in the competence center on May 22nd, 2025, and the 31st Brandenburg Seniors' Week, which will be celebrated from May 25th to June 1st, 2025. A flyer is used to point out all events in Forst so that seniors can take an active part.

Safety and accessibility in old age

A central topic that is also discussed in the seniors' advisory board events is accessibility. As wohnen-im-alter.de reports, many falls in old age can be attributed to tripping hazards. It is therefore recommended that living spaces be designed to be safe in order to minimize the risk of accidents. Aids such as grab handles, adjusted furniture heights and good lighting are essential.

The city of Forst has already taken an important step in the right direction by installing wooden loungers in the outdoor pool. It is particularly important for older people to find comfortable and safe space outdoors. The commitment of the city and the senior citizens' council is a sign that the needs of the older generation are taken seriously and that more comfort and safety are also ensured in their free time.

Overall, it can be seen that the municipality of Forst strives to offer its older citizens a pleasant and safe environment. Let us remain excited about future developments and initiatives that will continue this good course.
