Something is happening in the Potsdam-Mittelmark region! The popular “CITY CYCLING” campaign will take place again next September. Between September 7th and 27th, 2025, citizens can cycle their everyday journeys and make an important contribution to climate protection. From work to leisure activities, every kilometer cycled counts. This not only sets a personal record, but also supports the community.
A look at the past shows that participation in this campaign is constantly increasing. Last year, around 347,000 kilometers were covered - an increase of almost 100,000 kilometers compared to the previous year. This not only pleases the organizers, but also shows how much potential there is in cycling, because the bicycle is a fast and environmentally friendly means of transport Federal Environment Agency confirmed.
Strong together for a good climate
This year, cyclists from Potsdam-Mittelmark, as well as the municipalities of Teltow, Stahnsdorf, Nuthetal, Schwielowsee, Werder (Havel), Brück, Treuenbrietzen, Bad Belzig and Wiesenburg can take part. Registration is very easy via the website www.stadtradeln.de possible. Here participants also have the opportunity to create their own teams or join existing teams. If your own municipality is not registered, an open team from the district is also available.
The kilometers can be recorded very conveniently either via the CITY CYCLING app or online in the action portal. The goal of the campaign? Promote climate-friendly mobility and reduce CO² emissions. By the way: According to a study by... Federal Environment Agency Up to 30% of car journeys in metropolitan areas could even be replaced by cycling!
Role model function and awards
The CITY CYCLING campaign is not only an opportunity for individuals or teams to get active, but also serves as a role model for local parliaments in the fight for climate protection. Those involved can look forward to various awards – from the most hard-working teams to the most active cyclists. The mayor of Potsdam, Mike Schubert, has taken over the patronage of the campaign and will certainly provide active support to the participants.
“Cycling is not only a healthy and affordable mobility alternative, but also plays a major role in climate protection,” explains Melanie Gäbler, the region’s cycling representative. She encourages everyone to get involved and shows that the kilometers collected not only contribute to CO² savings, but also increase the quality of life through less noise and exhaust fumes.
