Summer theater in Potsdam: The new Menoza inspires on the Winzerberg!
Potsdam, Deutschland - Potsdam and the AG cities with historic city nuclei invite you to an exciting summer theater experience. On Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 8 p.m., the comedy "The New Menoza or History of the Cumbanian Prince Tandi" by Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz will be performed in the open air. This first performance takes place on the picturesque Winzerberg, a historical backdrop that is already looking back on a moving story. The second performance follows on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. on the Neuendorfer Anger.
The piece, staged by Theater 89, deals with the gap between the ideals and the reality of the enlightened society, and offers a critical view of religion, culture as well as the moral values of the nobility and bourgeoisie. In five files, it reflects the challenges of the time that are still important today. Bernd Rubelt, deputy for urban development, construction, economy and the environment, emphasize the positive development and upgrading of the cityscapes in Brandenburg, which is also supported by such cultural events. [Potsdam] (https://www.potsdam.de/de/315- theater experience-historical-backdrop) reports that the tour is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg.
a theater -historical heir
The Winzerberg, who began in 1763 and was modernized by garden director Peter Joseph Lenné in 1848, shows how historical places can be revived by culture. After a phase of decay during the Cold War, the square has been renovated and revitalized by the Winzerberg Bauverein since 2005. The performances on the Winzerberg take place in cooperation with this association.
At the same time, the Neuendorfer Anger is also the focus. Here is the old Neuendorfer church, which was built in 1853 and was reconstructed in 2007 in order to be used again as a cultural site for wedding ceremonies, services and concerts. The performance on the Anger takes place in cooperation with the Alten Neuendorfer Church and Neuendorfer Anger e.v.
tickets and event background
Both performances are an enrichment for the cultural landscape and show how the theater further strengthens community life in the historic city centers. The tickets are not only available at the box office, but also online via Eventim as well as in the tourist information in the train station passages and on the Alten Markt. [Potsdam Tourismus] (https://www.potsdamtourismus.de/event/sommertheater-der-neue-menoza or-history-history-des-prinzen-tandi) emphasizes the variety of events that take place as part of these summer theater tour. The theater 89, which can look back on its 35th anniversary in 2025, brings fresh impulses back into the cultural scene with this piece. The initiative is supported by the state of Brandenburg with 150,000 euros annually to promote the free theater.
The summer theater tour is not only a cultural highlight, but also an opportunity for the citizens: inside, dealing with its city and its history. As part of the motto "Moving people: the old town creates a connection", it can be seen how important such events are for the preservation and vitalization of the historical cityscape. [MWFK Brandenburg] (https://mwfk.brandenburg.de/mwfk/de/service/Pressemitteilungen/ansicht/~18-2024-summertheater-city kernels) regularly reports on the progress and actions in the historical city cores, which are still stiveled through this type of theater projects.
