Carnival in Bad Belzig: New fun and traditions start!
On November 11th, 2025 at 11:11 a.m. it was that time again: The Bad Belzig Carnival Association (BKV) gave the starting signal for the new carnival season with a colorful start. Around 250 spectators gathered at the market square and celebrated the beginning of the foolish time together with a cheerful “Belici helau”. There was confetti, sweets, grilled sausage and mulled wine, which heated up the mood and made faces smile. As the Märkische Allgemeine reports, taking part in this festive ceremony was a must for many. Heinz Nispel, former club boss, particularly emphasized this.
A central point of the celebrations was the mysterious choice of the new prince couple by the President of the BKV, Andreas Burdag. The happy follies, Dennis LV. and Maria I., come from Lehnin and bring a breath of fresh air into this year's session. Dennis Salewski, 38 years old and a quality engineer, and Maria Klitschke, 36 years old and a banking specialist in the public service, are now at the head of the foolish rule. The motto of the 62nd session “Costume on – worries off” reflects the fools’ attitude to life and promises exuberant celebrations.
Tradition and pleasure
The day traditionally began with a Jeckenbreakfast in the garden, followed by a relaxing carriage ride through Bad Belzig. Mayor Robert Pulz symbolically handed over the city treasury to the fools, who this year only had to contribute a tip due to careful planning. In order to support the carnival, Pulz is planning a “Jecken special fund”. This initiative is welcomed by the fools with joy as they do not have to expect any special taxes.
There is great anticipation for the upcoming events in January and February. The first big event has already taken place in the Seecafé, and the members of the carnival club, currently numbering 70, are trying out their programs with a lot of enthusiasm. Loud Fläming365 This is already the 62nd session, and the club's 60th anniversary acts as a worthy setting for these celebrations.
Carnival time in Germany
Carnival, also known as Fasching or Fas(t)nacht, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Germany, especially in strongholds such as Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz, which attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Across Germany, carnival sales total around 1.7 billion euros, with the catering industry generating an estimated turnover of 770 million euros during the season. Nevertheless, according to current surveys, around 60 percent of Germans said in 2025 that they would not celebrate Carnival. The celebrations are accompanied by both traditional reports and an ever-growing number of interested parties.
These developments show how diverse and dynamic the carnival scene is. In Bad Belzig, however, the magic of the carnival remains alive and is celebrated, as usual, with much joy and enthusiasm, while the fools take over the next few months.
