New access for everyone: barrier -free underpasses in Eichwalde and Zeuthen opened!
Zeuthen, Deutschland - On July 10, 2025, an important milestone for accessibility and travel quality were achieved in Brandenburg: the renewed passenger accommodations at the Eichwalde and Zeuthen train stations were ceremoniously opened. At this event, the DB group representative Alexander Kaczmarek as well as the Mayor Jörg Jenoch from Eichwalde and Philipp Martens von Zeuthen were present.
The comprehensive renovations of the underpasses were no coincidence. In recent years, Deutsche Bahn has increasingly invested in the infrastructure in order to meet the increasing number of passengers. At the Eichwalde train station, both the person underpass and the eastern and western entrances were fundamentally renewed, whereby the width and height of the underpass were enlarged. This should not only increase the comfort of the travelers, but also enable barrier -free access to the platform, which can be reached via two ramps and an elevator.
extensive changes in Zeuthen
The Zeuthen train station also experienced significant changes in this context. Here the old person underpass was replaced by a new building, which belongs to take into account the modern requirements of the travelers. A brand new staircase access from the basement to the platform was installed, and a new access structure on the central platform was built. In order to further improve accessibility, several elevators on the platform and on the eastern and western entrances to the underpass are also planned. Bicycle ramps also increase user -friendliness for cyclists.
The entire construction measure is pursuing the goal of making all accesses completely barrier -free by the end of 2025. In addition, a provisional pedestrian bridge that was in operation during the construction work will be dismantled at the beginning of October. It is planned that the new elevators will be installed by December 2025, while the final construction of the stair roofing should be completed by the end of 2026. During the construction work, small closures of the underpass and rail traffic are necessary that were coordinated with the community.
the importance of accessibility
The commitment of Deutsche Bahn regarding accessibility is not only an answer to growing passenger numbers, but also an important social responsibility. According to the Federal Ministry of Transport , measures for accessibility, especially with regard to the needs of people with disabilities. In recent years, a clear framework for the implementation of such measures has been created in Germany in order to meet the needs of an increasingly aging population. These developments are part of the extensive rail infrastructure program, which not only catches the eye of accessibility, but also a general modernization of the traffic stations.
The openings in Eichwalde and Zeuthen are therefore not only pleasant news for traveling citizens, but also an important step towards a more inclusive mobility in Brandenburg. It is to be hoped that these progress will also be understood in other communities in the future.
