New playground in Mariannenpark: children's hearts beat faster!

In the heart of Leipzig-Schönefeld, in the popular Mariannenpark, the gates to a completely renovated playground will open from Thursday, November 13th. After a construction period of ten weeks, the children can look forward to a new adventure. The renovation was a long-cherished wish of the residents and had been planned for over three years.

The new playground offers a colorful mix of play equipment that will be great fun for both the little ones and the older ones. Highlights include two new slides, a seesaw, a carousel, a horizontal bar, a nest swing and even a token in the shape of a seal. Climbing enthusiasts will also get their money's worth - two climbing frames are ready to be climbed, while a new play wall provides additional play opportunities. This renovation of the playground is not only a benefit for the children, but also helps to promote leisure activities in the neighborhood LVZ reports.

Extensive planning and financing

The renovation costs amounted to around 200,000 euros, with the financing based on a solid mix: two thirds of the costs are borne by the federal and state governments, while one third is covered by the city of Leipzig. This financial support shows how serious those responsible are about improving the quality of life in the city.

The dismantling of the old play equipment was part of an age assessment by the Office for Urban Parks and Waters, which determined that the old equipment no longer met safety standards. During the redesign, the wishes of parents and children were actively taken into account in the planning, which makes the design of the new playground particularly child-friendly.

Connection with further improvements in Mariannen Park

Mariannenpark is not only known for its play opportunities. Since 2024, a renovated fitness area on Rohrteichstrasse has provided additional activities and exercise in nature. This disproves the old saying, “There’s something going on.” The park becomes a popular meeting place for sports enthusiasts and families alike.

From Thursday, it's not just the little Schönefeld residents who can look forward to the new playground. With a variety of activities in the park, Leipzig-Schönefeld becomes a lively meeting place for young and old.
