S46 and RE2: Massive restrictions for travelers in Königs Wusterhausen!
Train cancellations and replacement traffic in Königs Wusterhausen: Construction work will affect S-Bahn and regional traffic in December 2025.

S46 and RE2: Massive restrictions for travelers in Königs Wusterhausen!
In the coming days, passengers in Königs Wusterhausen will have to prepare for some restrictions on S-Bahn and regional transport. From December 1st to 5th, the S46 will only remain as far as Wildau from 8 p.m. and a replacement service will be set up between Königs Wusterhausen and Wildau until 1:30 a.m Moz.de reported. The RE2 regional express is also affected: some trains will be canceled between Ostbahnhof and Königs Wusterhausen from December 1st to 4th.
The restrictions are a direct result of track construction work at Königs Wusterhausen train station. The RE2 departure at 11:04 p.m. from Hennigsdorf to Berlin Ostbahnhof will not continue to Königs Wusterhausen. In addition, the train at 12:04 a.m. from Hennigsdorf is canceled, and the 1:00 a.m. connection from Königs Wusterhausen to Berlin-Charlottenburg is also canceled. Due to these changes, travelers are encouraged to consider alternative connections.
Progress and problems in local transport
The current chaos in rail transport is not an isolated case. The S-Bahn line S46 had already started operating again between Grünau and Wildau on October 6th, after extensive signaling work and switch replacements had been carried out in advance. But the changes in local transport were already noticeable by October 13th, when numerous train cancellations and overcrowding on replacement buses resulted in longer commute times nag-brandenburg.de reported.
The challenges caused by construction work and the resulting loss of comfort could continue in the coming months. In the first week of October, the RE2 regional express only ran to Schönefeld, and by the end of October, other trains between Berlin Grünau and Baumschulenweg had to stop running.
The look into the future
Given this situation, it is even more important to keep an eye on plans for investment in infrastructure. The federal government plans to invest a total of 166 billion euros in the maintenance and expansion of transport routes by 2029, with the railways also benefiting significantly. Of the 166 billion euros mentioned, around 107 billion euros are earmarked for rail tagesschau.de. In the long term, this could contribute to greater punctuality and stability in rail transport.
While the current construction sites and restrictions pose a challenge for travelers, many are hoping that the planned renovations and conversion of train stations into “train stations of the future” will soon lead to improvements in Königs Wusterhausen too.
