Brandenburg's Gotti brings Spaghetti Western to Wandlitz - Join in now!
Martin “Gotti” Gottschild, a true all-rounder from Brandenburg, is currently making a name for himself. The comedian, author and musician, who describes himself as a “court jester”, has specialized in producing a spaghetti western. With his film “Tram – Wash Your Hands Again Before You Die,” which is scheduled to be released in cinemas in 2024, Gotti is breaking new ground. While that first part is his homage to the Spaghetti Western, he is already planning the sequel “The Party”, which is inspired by the Côte d’Azur in Wandlitz and will revive the atmosphere of French Sunday films from the 70s and 80s. As *fluxfm* reports, Gotti describes this second part as a kind of “La Boum with 50-year-olds”.
The entire film will be shot on an old tram carriage, the “Lindner 30”, and Gotti himself will play the leading role in Berlin dialect. Interestingly, the total production cost for the western is remarkably low at 60,000 euros compared to the usual sum of 300,000 euros. Financing is done via crowdfunding, which allows many small supporters to become part of the project. Gotti already has experience with this financing model, as he published “Sandman for Adults” with new texts two years ago.
Crowdfunding as a creative solution
But what is behind crowdfunding and why is it attractive to many filmmakers? *Startnext* explains that the platform has successfully financed around 1,300 film projects since its founding in October 2010. The success rate for all projects is a remarkable 61%. Film projects are particularly popular here because they serve niche interests and often promote unusual content. Gotti also offers his supporters numerous rewards: for 30 euros you can get a signed book, and for 666,666 euros you can even get a producer's name in the credits.
The special thing about Gottschild's approach is that he doesn't want to include any explicit scenes of violence or problems with women in his film. This appeals to a broader target group and could earn the film additional sympathy points from both critics and audiences. His humorous nature, which he showed in a conversation with Katia Berg and Sascha Schlegel from *fluxfm*, is a constant part of his work.
An exciting collaboration
For the music, Gotti has hired Sven van Thom, who will design the soundtrack. Gotti and his crew are optimistic that they can wow audiences with this concept. The first film “Tram” will even be raffled off, including a booklet, a Tram Quartet card and a CD with scores and DVD. Those interested have the opportunity to take part in the raffle.
Martin Gottschild, born on September 24, 1976 in East Berlin, has made a name for himself over the years. Eleven years after his appearance at the Bundesvision Song Contest in 2007, he is part of the comedy duo “Animals caress people” and has established himself as a leading figure in the comedy scene. With a mixture of music, humor and cinematic art, Gotti shows that he has a good knack for creative development.
At a time when innovative film projects often face financing hurdles, Gottschild is sending a strong message with his spaghetti western and the creative use of crowdfunding - people are willing to pay for stories that mean something to them. The Spaghetti Western in Brandenburg could definitely become a topic of conversation and shows that exciting films can also be made in the provinces.
