Regional training fair: Strong partnership for young talents!

Last week, a significant step for the region took place at the Spree-Neiße comprehensive school: The mayors of Kolkwitz, Karsten Schreiber, and Drebkau, Paul Köhne, signed a cooperation agreement to organize a training fair. This event will take place on January 29, 2026 on the comprehensive school grounds and aims to connect students, parents, teachers and local businesses. As Märkischer Bote reports, the initiative is a joint effort to improve training and labor market opportunities for young people in the region and receives support from the Spree-Neiße district.

With this training fair, the cooperation partners want to build a bridge between school education and professional practice. Particular attention should be paid to regional and smaller companies, which will have the opportunity to present their training offerings. This will not only promote the regional economy, but also help to retain skilled workers in the region, according to gemeinde-kolkwitz.de.

A comprehensive supporting program

However, the training fair is just one of many events that will shape the coming weeks in Kolkwitz. On July 20th there will be a family and summer festival in the Kolkwitz family and counseling center, followed by a church service and a colorful program at the summer festival in Groß Gaglow on July 20th. On July 26th, a pilgrimage from Kolkwitz to Vetschau will take place, covering a distance of around 18 kilometers and taking between five to six hours.

For music and biker fans there is the Bike & Rock Festival in Limberg, which will take place from August 7th to 10th - a traditional biker meeting that has had many fans since 1996. As part of cultural events, an exhibition about the 'church castle landscape of Transylvania' will be on display in the Glass Church of Glinzig from July 27th to August 24th.

Education initiatives and health

The Brandenburg Reading Summer starts on July 22nd for children in grades 2 to 9, and the Kolkwitz-Papitz trombone choir also has reason to celebrate: its 70th anniversary will be celebrated with an evening serenade on July 18th and a festive service on July 20th. Various offers for seniors are also planned, including a dance café in the Kolkwitz sports center on July 30th as well as training and cooking courses in June.

The creative minds in the region also see ways in which foreign training projects can provide positive impulses. Since 2012, dual vocational training has been promoted at international level in order to reduce youth unemployment in southern Europe while at the same time retaining skilled workers in Germany. These initiatives make it clear that the training of young people is not only viewed locally, but also globally, which means that crafts and industry in Germany can benefit in the long term, as Bildungsserver summarizes.

The plans for the election of the full-time mayor of the municipality of Kolkwitz on September 28th and a possible runoff election date on October 19th are also on the municipal administration's agenda. With such diverse activities and initiatives, Kolkwitz remains a region that is constantly developing and creating attractive prospects for its citizens.
