Geocaching Championship 2025: Excitement and puzzles in Cottbus!

This weekend Cottbus will be a hotspot for all geocaching fans, because the 19th German Geocaching Championship is just around the corner. The organizers are the defending champions from Lausitz, but they are not allowed to take part in the event itself. The scene of the action is the grounds of the ESV LokRaw boathouse, where the excitement around the hidden containers and tricky puzzles will unfold. A real magnet for adventure seekers!

19 teams are traveling from all over Germany to compete in this exciting discipline. The teams, each consisting of five people, come from different corners of the country, including Berlin, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. An exciting supporting program will also attract non-qualified teams who can enjoy the atmosphere on site.

A competition of thinkers and doers

The geocaching championship has evolved significantly over the years. The focus used to be on simply finding caches, but now the tasks have become much more complex and require teamwork and creative thinking. Falk Pinkwart, the reigning German champion and main organizer of the event, aims to challenge the participants while ensuring an unforgettable experience. With 11 interactive stations in the city center of Cottbus where various tasks have to be solved, the thrill will not be neglected.

The participating teams were previously selected from 43 applications, with 18 qualifying for the final. Another team was given a chance through a wildcard. In order to ensure a fair option for everyone, a 50-kilometer exclusion zone was drawn around Cottbus. Over 50 helpers are on duty to make the process run smoothly and to actively support the participants.

Experiential education in a new way

Geocaching not only combines the fun of searching with competition, but is also an excellent example of experiential education. Participants learn to work together as a team, master problem-solving exercises and orient themselves in nature. These activities promote social skills and ecological awareness. According to Cojote Outdoor, this type of learning is particularly effective because it involves analyzing and reflecting on the experiences after the rally.

Another highlight of the championship will be the “task list” format, which will guide participants through various tasks. One of the first challenges will require speed, while the later stages require a combination of skill and knowledge. For example, one of the tasks was to quickly fetch water, during which participants could also experience one or two humorous situations.

To further increase anticipation, winners and places will be announced at the end of the event. It will also be exciting to see who makes it onto the podium, as at the last championship a team was able to take 10th place and is therefore considered one of the favorites for the coming challenge.

If you would like to find out more about the previous championships, you will find numerous reports and photo documentation on GC Lausitz, where you can also take a look behind the scenes. The anticipation of this exciting championship is the perfect incentive for anyone who wants to feel the outdoor adventure and spirit of adventure in their own homes.
