Energie Cottbus is having a dark day in the third division, where they lost 3-0 in a duel against 1860 Munich. These monkey noises led to a break in the game of about seven minutes. Cottbus captain Axel Borgmann reported the hostility to the referees, while the stadium announcer apologized to Butler on behalf of the club.

Racism and its consequences

The incident caused outrage among fans, who responded to the hostility with chants of “Nazis out.” Despite the incident, the game continued, which coach Wollitz viewed with incomprehension and called for the game to be stopped.
