Veteran honor: big festival in Strausberg on June 18, 2025!
In Strausberg something is happening: On June 18, 2025, a special event takes place, which is all about the recognition of Bundeswehr veterans. The comradeship of former/reservists/survivors Strausberg in the German Bundeswehr Association e.V. has invited to the National Veteran Day, which will be celebrated in the sports and relaxation park from 2:00 p.m. The reason for this is a Bundestag decision from April 2024, which has decided to introduce an annual memorial day for veterans. This day paves the way for more visibility and appreciation of the veterans and their services.
At the event in Strausberg, visitors can expect an informative program. Information stands, exhibitions, readings and talks offer a good hand to share the stories and experiences of the veterans. The event aims to address not only veterans themselves, but also families and the general public. The participation of regional authorities, organizations and committed citizens promises a lively atmosphere full of thanks and recognition that is shown for the fallen and living veterans.
recognition of the veterans in the focus
With the establishment of the national veteran day, the Federal Government wants to put the use and merits of the veterans in the foreground. Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasizes how important respect is for all those who fought for peace, freedom and democracy. On this occasion there are over 130 events that are organized by the federal states, municipalities and associations. In Berlin at a central celebration at the Reichstag, which is under the patronage of Bundestag president Julia Klöckner, is created for encounter and exchange.
The National Veteran Day will be held every June 15 every year - a date that was chosen because the first veteran badge was awarded on this day in 2019. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius describes this holiday as a "overdue sign of recognition" for the soldiers who are both active and have left service honor. This affects around 10 million people in Germany who can focus on a piece of their history.
A look at further events
Especially in the days before the main day, many other events are underway. On June 15, 2025, numerous events were planned nationwide, including a field service in Augustdorf, a reception in the town hall in Lemgo and a "march of appreciation" in Duisburg. In cities such as Düsseldorf, Duisburg and Krefeld, activities around the Veteran Day also take place, which cover everything from shared exchange to musical performances. This multitude of events stands for the broad social support and the commitment to honor and make our veterans visible.
