In the early morning hours of September 18, 2025, the fire department in Strausberg Nord was alerted. At 5 a.m. thick smoke came from an amusement arcade on “Am Flugplatz” street. At first it was thought that a fire was possible, but the rapid on-site investigation turned the concern into relief: a fire had not broken out. Rather, a smoke system that was activated during a break-in caused the smoke to develop Moz.de reported.
The unknown perpetrators were obviously targeting the slot machines. They broke into several of these devices and stole cash. In order to remain undetected, they manipulated the alarm system with construction foam so that it no longer worked. In addition, several surveillance cameras that were supposed to monitor the outdoor area of the casino were damaged or even torn down. Attentive neighbors had noticed the casino's alarm, but by the time the fire department arrived there was no trace of the perpetrators. So far they are still on the run, which makes the investigation by the Märkisch-Oderland criminal police all the more urgent.
A comparison to other incidents
The burglars' actions in Strausberg are reminiscent of a similar incident in Ahaus, in which unknown perpetrators broke into several slot machines on the night of February 26, 2024. Here too, a fog system was activated, which severely impaired the visibility of those present. The perpetrators found their way inside, broke into three devices and stole cash after forcing their way into the building. The criminal police in Ahaus are looking for witnesses in this case to obtain further information (further information can be found at presseportal.de).
The case in Strausberg shows that the security precautions in such facilities are sometimes not enough to prevent brazen break-ins. It remains to be seen whether investigators will be able to clarify the identity of the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
