Mystery about the robbery of millions: Suspect on the loose again!

In a surprising turn of events in the case of the spectacular break-in at the Sparkasse Strausberg, the 24-year-old suspect was released again. This happened even though he had already been released from custody in September 2025. However, the public prosecutor's office has lodged an appeal against the regional court's decision. The burglary, in which more than 12 million euros were stolen, occurred on Easter Monday 2023 and remains a hot topic in the region to this day. rbb24 reports that ...

The perpetrators had worked their way into the bank's vault unnoticed for days with a core drilling machine and in the process broke open a significant number of safe deposit boxes. A total of around 400 lockers were looted, with the perpetrators targeting the valuable contents of around 300 lockers. Thanks to numerous witnesses and a speed camera photo, investigators managed to catch another 23-year-old suspect in Berlin. He is also said to be involved in the multi-million dollar robbery. Welt informs that...

Evidence that is not enough

The public prosecutor's office bases its accusation on several pieces of evidence, which were, however, considered insufficient by the district court. These include DNA traces of the suspect on a metal sign that closed a drill hole and a speed camera photo in which he can be seen. The district court decided that the quality of the photo was not sufficient to clearly identify the suspect. It was also determined that the DNA traces could have gotten to the metal sign outside the crime scene. The cash that was found on the suspect could not be directly attributed to the crime.

The court's assessment has caused a stir and raises questions about how such extensive evidence and its quality will be dealt with in the future. The Higher Regional Court will now decide whether a main hearing will take place in the burglary case or not.

A heist of epic proportions

The scale of the break-in at Sparkasse Strausberg is without a doubt frightening. On Easter Monday 2023, several masked perpetrators broke into the security-monitored vault “with brute force”. Witnesses reported four masked people leaving the bank with heavy bags. The perpetrators' sophisticated approach gave the investigation a special flavor and put both the police and the public prosecutor's office under pressure to bring clarity to the matter as quickly as possible.

To this day, what happened in Strausberg is a constant topic in the media and in public. The search for further accomplices remains active, and citizens' concerns about the security of their investments have hardly disappeared. It remains interesting to see how this case will develop and whether justice can prevail in the end.
