Farewell to Horst Krause: A life full of stories and emotions

In recent years, Horst Krause has given us a lot of joy with his authentic portrayal of the village policeman in the popular crime thriller “Polizeiruf 110”. With his charming manner and his unerring instinct for life's small and large problems, he has made a name for himself far beyond the borders of Brandenburg. The actor died on September 5th at the age of 83 in a retirement home in Teltow, Brandenburg, as the family only announced on Monday. A loss that is not only felt in the film world, because Krause was more than just a TV celebrity - he was a cult figure for many viewers.

He began his career as a class clown, but he trained as a turner before studying at the State Drama School in Berlin-Schöneweide. He finally came to television via the theater stages in Parchim and Karl-Marx-Stadt, where he was seen in, among other things, “The Public Prosecutor has the Word”. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he suddenly became known in 1993 with the comedy “We can do it differently…”. But the role that made him immortal was undoubtedly that of the village policeman, which he played for 17 years and which was brought to life by director Bernd Böhlich. Over the years he has created his very own universe in which he conquered people's hearts with his personality and his motorcycle team. According to [RBB](https://www.rbb-online.de/ Fernsehenen/programm/26_12_2025/2033879.html), the format never went out of fashion and became an emotional counterpart to “Tatort”.

A farewell with memories

To mark his death, rbb television is planning a special program entitled “Farewell to Horst Krause”. This will include a filmic journey to his favorite places in Berlin and Brandenburg, which he has visited countless times over the years. He was particularly fond of the Alte Markthalle in Berlin-Moabit, where he enjoyed drinking a beer, the “Grünefeld” inn in Bredow, famous for its meatballs, and the village of Ihlow in Märkisch-Oderland, where he shot many of his films. Companions and close friends will have their say in the show, including the actresses Carmen-Maja Antoni and Angelika Böttiger as well as fellow actors Uwe Kockisch and Matthias Platzeck, the former Prime Minister of Brandenburg.

Horst Krause was born near Danzig in 1941 and grew up in Ludwigsfelde, where, as he often humorously noted, he discovered his acting talent at an early age. Over the years he has shaped the stage and television with his unique presence and his gripping performances. In addition to “Polizeiruf 110,” he also filmed in the series “Polizeihauptmeister Krause,” which aired from 2007 to 2022 and highlighted his character’s private life. This combination of humor and seriousness has made him a favorite of many viewers.

But he has not only enriched the television experience, he has also been honored with awards for his acting performance, including the Brandenburg Order of Merit in 2012. Even Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke and many others who appreciated him sent him congratulations on his 80th birthday. A life's work that will remain even after his death.

The traces that Horst Krause leaves on German television are unmistakable. While we have to say goodbye to a very special person, we remain with his work and the memories of his roles: Anyone who knew and saw him will not forget him.
