Mühlentor in Templin shines in new splendor after a recent renovation!
A lot has happened in Templin in the last few days: after a repair time of around a week, the mill gate shines in new splendor. The construction work included repairing the joints in the floor and walls, an important measure for monument protection. Silke Gisder from the city's building department confirmed the successful completion of the work, which was carried out by Manuel Börner, an experienced operator of a construction and jointing company from Strasburg.
But the mill gate is more than just a gate - it is the oldest and smallest of the three surviving gates of the Templin city fortifications. Built in the impressive brick Gothic style in the 14th century, it is a two-story gate tower with characteristic ogival tracery panels. The historical reliefs on the outside facing the city center and the bright plastered surfaces above were also renewed, giving the gate its charming appearance back.
Monument protection in Templin
Keeping an eye on the preservation of the mill gate is of great importance for the city. Small repairs are necessary to keep the monument in good condition. According to the city administration, this continuous maintenance work is even comparable to maintaining the city wall. The preservation of monuments is described as an ongoing task that reflects the identity and history of the city of Templin.
The architectural features of the mill gate, including the impressive portcullis porch and the battlement on the field side, make it a remarkable part of the city's history. Many remember the similarities with Chorin Monastery, some 30 miles away. This historical connection makes the Mühlentor not only an important landmark, but also a popular attraction for visitors from near and far.
Although construction is now complete, it remains exciting to see how Templin continues to work to preserve its fascinating history. For everyone who wants to visit Templin, this time is a great opportunity to look at the newly renovated mill gate and learn more about the city's history. And who knows, maybe you'll discover one or two business opportunities in the charming city center!
