35 years of Lebenshilfe Uckermark: diversity celebrated as a common motto!
Lebenshilfe Uckermark e.V. is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: 35 years of commitment to people with disabilities. To mark this milestone birthday, a celebratory event took place on the Lebenshilfe grounds in Templin. The motto of the festival year “Vielfalt” reflects the comprehensive offerings and the colorful community of Lebenshilfe, as nordkurier.de reports.
Members, relatives, clients, carers and friends gathered for the celebrations to celebrate the special day together. Performances by the music group from “Haus Templin” and the Zumba kids from SV Alemania Templin created a great atmosphere. The good mood was noticeable in the air and the conviviality was the main focus.“We want everyone here to feel like family,”explained Hartmut Hampel, head of open assistance at Lebenshilfe Uckermark.
Responsibility and community
The location at Platanenstrasse 19 offers comprehensive care for people with mental disabilities. Eight people currently live in the residential group, while six people have found a place in the residential group at Gutshof 20. Around 30 employees look after around 70 people between the ages of 20 and 70, all of whom need individual support. The residents, with the support of their carers, look after the surrounding property and actively shape their everyday lives.
A special feature of Lebenshilfe is the concept of assisted individual living and the family atmosphere in the living groups. Each group has its own living area with terrace, shared kitchen, common rooms and modern bathrooms. A spacious garden area is available for leisure and relaxation. Visitors quickly notice that a home has been created here that goes far beyond mere care.
Inclusive events and activities
Lebenshilfe Uckermark is not only involved in care, but also through numerous events that strengthen the community. In a recent company run in Angermünde, 96 participants from Lebenshilfe, including 8 runners and 88 walkers, took part. That meant at least 20% of all 358 enthusiastic running participants! A great sign of inclusion, as lebenshilfe-uckermark.de reports.
As part of the life support festival on May 17th, which attracted many visitors, numerous offers were made available for young and old. Making beaded bracelets, enjoying cotton candy and musical highlights from the nature daycare center made the day unforgettable. The new residents' council with members from Schwedt and Angermünde was also elected at the end of September 2024. This shows how important it is for Lebenshilfe to represent the voices of its clients and relatives and to actively include them in decisions.
Accessibility in focus
A central concern of Lebenshilfe is also to break down barriers and improve mobility for people with disabilities. According to reports, it is often a challenge that barrier-free offerings in local public transport are not sufficiently available. Although set by law, the goal of comprehensively barrier-free public transport has not yet been achieved. However, according to lebenshilfe.de, the federal government plans to work on implementation by 2026.
Lebenshilfe Uckermark is an outstanding example of how the quality of life of people with disabilities can be noticeably improved through diversity, commitment and community spirit. She continues to advocate for everyone to have their place and voice, not just during such special occasions, but every day.
