Sunbathing in the Uckermark: How to protect your skin effectively!
Summer is just around the corner and the temperatures are rising - an ideal time to lie down in the sun at the beautiful Uckermark lakes. But caution is advised! While the weather forecast predicts bright sunshine for the coming week, experts warn about the dangers of excessive sun exposure. In particular, the risk of developing skin cancer is alarming. According to current data, around 300,000 people in Germany develop skin cancer every year. The Brandenburg State Medical Association is therefore launching a comprehensive educational offensive about the right sun protection, reports Northern Courier.
Dr. med. Silke Thies makes it clear that each of us should take the danger of UV radiation seriously. “Sun protection is an absolute must,” she emphasizes, recommending a sun protection factor of at least 30. To ensure optimal protection, sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating. It is also advisable to stay in the shade between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when UV radiation is at its highest. This knowledge is also based on findings from the World Health Organization, which indicates the highest UV exposure during midday.
Practical tips for a safe summer day
A slight touch of lightness arises when you are outdoors. Nevertheless, instead of going out into full sunlight, you should protect yourself with light, long clothing and have regular skin examinations in practices and clinics in the region, for example in Schwedt or Templin. Regular examinations can save lives, and the increase in skin cancer cases is seen as a warning signal. The people of Uckermark are called upon to take the sun seriously and take targeted measures to protect it.
Another aspect that is often overlooked is the reflection effect from different surfaces. UV radiation is reflected differently - grass and water reflect less than 10%, while sand reflects about 15%. Especially in snow, UV exposure can be almost doubled, which presents skiers with the problem of snow blindness. It is therefore important to also pay attention to the environment in which you are staying, especially on bright beaches or snow-covered landscapes.
In summary: enjoy the sun, but do so responsibly. Summer is an excellent opportunity to spend time outdoors and relax, as long as you follow the necessary protective measures. Take advantage of the State Medical Association's educational campaigns and make yourself aware that good sun protection is part of enjoying the summer to the fullest. Remember: a few simple steps can help protect your skin from harmful UV rays and ensure long-term enjoyment of sunny days.
