Christmas run in Prenzlau: sporting tradition inspires young and old!

What a day for the runners and the entire community in Prenzlau! The traditional Christmas run, which has been held for over 40 years, also took place on the first holiday this year. With a number of participants of 116 people on December 25, 2023, the run is a clear increase compared to the previous year, when 93 runners took part. **Nordkurier** reports that the cold temperatures of minus six degrees Celsius did not deter the sports-loving participants - a true sign of determination!

The event not only attracts local Prenzlau residents, but also former residents who combine the family celebration with sporting activity. Annett Hoppe, an ex-Prenzlau resident, took part in this event for the first time with her family from Nuremberg. The youngest runner was just four years old, while the oldest participant was an impressive 89 years old, showing that sport has a place at every age.

A celebration of conviviality and tradition

Marleen Littmann, chairwoman of TSV 62 Prenzlau e.V., is continuing the tradition of the Christmas run. Until MC Uckermark was disbanded, it was the main organizer of the event. Hans-Dieter Thiemke, a loyal supporter of the run, has been taking part for more than 40 years, which underlines the special commitment of the community. Local residents even provided free electricity to support the event, enabling something completely normal: an unforgettable experience with friends and family.

The five-kilometer route led along the picturesque lakeshore to the Cape Inn and back - a wonderful backdrop for all participants. This isn't just a run, it's a chance to work off those festive holiday calories and get some exercise. The run is perfectly placed in the competition calendar, which includes around 250 running events in Germany in December, including numerous New Year's Eve runs, which are also very well received HDSports.

Looking into the future

TSV 62 Prenzlau is proud to not only be active at this event, but also to provide running opportunities all year round. Ten half-hour runs were held in 2023, giving both newcomers and experienced runners the opportunity to improve their endurance. The organization is firmly in the hands of the committed team around Bert Hofmann, Norbert Zart and Armin Gehrmann TSV 62 Prenzlau.

The next highlight in the running calendar is coming up on January 28th: the half-hour run in Prenzlauer Uckerstadion, which will take place monthly in the future. The anticipation for further sporting challenges remains high, and the members of TSV 62 make a significant contribution to promoting the love of sport in the region. A particularly nice thought that will be carried into the new year with vigor and vigor!
