One last wish: Stefan says goodbye on the Baltic Sea
A moving wish was fulfilled in October 2025: The “Uckermark against Leukemia” (UgL) association ensured that the seriously ill Stefan was able to experience the Baltic Sea again. After a long time in the hospice in Eberswalde, the patient mobile was waiting to pick up the young man and begin his final journey. Accompanied by his father, the group made their way to the sea to enjoy a bit of the joy of life.
The salty air and the screaming of seagulls were the highlights of this special trip. Kerstin Karsch, a committed supporter of the club, joined the trip and surprised the group with a small gift. Her visit was a ray of hope for Stefan and contributed to the positive atmosphere that prevailed that day.
Culinary delights on the coast
Before heading back, the group enjoyed a little break in a local restaurant. They chatted cheerfully over coffee and fried fish sandwiches and let their experiences sink in. Stefan shoveled down a few fries and treated himself to a root beer. These little joys were particularly important to him, even if the exhaustion became noticeable after a while. After a few hours at the sea, we had to return to the hospice, which only added to the bittersweet nature of the trip.
The club's boss, Ines Baumgarten, is grateful for the opportunity to fulfill this wish. She expressed her wish for more beautiful moments together for Stefan and his father - a sign that hope and community remain strong, even in difficult times.
A look at the future
This heartfelt gesture from the association not only bridges the desire of an individual life but also provides inspiration for many others. Events like this show how important it is to be there for people in need and to bring them joy, be it by the sea or in another place of dreams. The group of participants around such events is often a matter of solidarity and hope, something that is particularly well received in the Uckermark.
Initiatives like UgL's make it clear that every moment counts. Even if life sometimes seems dreary, small miracles can arise - just like a fresh day at the sea that makes you forget your worries for a moment.
