Traffic chaos in the north: construction sites threaten winter journeys!

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Northern Brandenburg, construction site activity remains unbroken even in the cold season Northern Courier reported. Drivers must prepare for disruptions and longer journey times. Various roadworks are underway or will take place in the next few weeks.

A lot of construction work is currently underway on the motorways and federal highways. An overview of the most important projects shows that the A24, for example between Gallin/Valluhn and Hamburg-Ost, will be affected from December 1st to 4th, 2025 due to work between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. During this time, passage will be limited to 4.5 meters. There are also several sections with restrictions on the A20, stretching from Schönberg to Rostock. Among other things, the passage will be narrowed to 3.25 meters, which could significantly affect traffic flow.

Federal and state roads in focus

But it's not just the highways that are affected. The federal highways are also experiencing a phase of intensive construction work. For example, the B104 between Cölpin and Alt Käbelich will be completely closed from November 24th to December 19th, 2025, which will require diversions via Burg Stargard and Neubrandenburg. The reason is urgently needed renovations to the roadway.

Particularly on the B5 near Ludwigslust, road users must expect a partial closure from November 12th to December 5th, which will result in a speed limit of 50 km/h. On the B198, the bypass in Mirow will be restricted for new road construction work until 2030. Traffic area restrictions are planned for 13.7 kilometers here, with a maximum speed of 30 km/h.

Traffic situation is getting worse

In addition, the B192 through Waren will be affected by traffic space restrictions until July 31, 2028, which poses challenges for residents and commuters alike. Traffic jams and delays due to construction work are therefore to be expected. The city administration is also required to keep an eye on the local traffic situation and, if necessary, react quickly to disruptions.

A further look at the state roads shows that there is a lot going on here too: many planned road construction projects have been initiated across the country in order to make the infrastructure future-proof. For example the L04 between Zapel and Hagenow, parts of which will be closed until 2027. Many of these measures cause inconveniences, but contribute to the long-term renewal and improvement of road quality, which is important for regional development.
