Two daycare centers in Wittstock are on the brink of closure: parents are resisting closure!
There's a lot going on in Wittstock at the moment, and not just in the daycare centers. Two facilities in Berlinchen and Fretzdorf are in jeopardy - they are threatened with closure for cost reasons. This recommendation was made in the integrated school and daycare development plan by Complan Kommunalberatung. Many parents are anything but enthusiastic because they appreciate the family atmosphere in the rural facilities where people still know each other. The Wittstock city council is working intensively on this issue, but a final decision is still pending. The discussion is coming to a head and it will be exciting to see what happens next.
It is precisely during these uncertainties that the good news comes: The Neuruppin carnival association NCC officially opened the 41st carnival season on November 11th at 11:11 a.m. Mayor Nico Ruhle ceremoniously handed over the key to the town hall, ushering in a time full of celebrations and good cheer. The next big event in February awaits the foolish entourage, especially the parade through the city and the celebration in the “Stadtgarten” on February 14th promise many highlights.
Challenges and memories
However, these days also bring sad news. On November 9th, Tony Torrilhon, a well-known graphic artist, engraver and wood sculptor, died at the age of 94 after a short, serious illness. His works of art, including the cheerful mermaids on the Rheinsberg bulwark, are known far beyond the region's borders. In a somewhat tragic way, life straddles the line between commerce and art.
A different picture emerges in gastronomy: the Fölsch restaurant in Gühlen-Glienicke has made a name for itself in the MAZ reader survey and is described as one of the most rustic village restaurants. Landlord couple Anke and Ingo Fölsch, both in their early 60s, are considering shortening their working hours - a step that is not unusual in the industry, where succession planning is often a major challenge.
A look at the finances
Parallel to the cultural events, there are also important financial issues that affect the city. Support of 45,000 euros from the city treasury is required for the MSV in the Volksparkstadion Neuruppin. The stadium, which belongs to the city and has been operated by MSV since 1998, receives 150,000 euros annually. Despite several changes to the contract between the city and the club, there is still no new contract. The city council is calling for a revision, which is urgently needed to ensure smooth operations.
The different facets of life in Wittstock and the surrounding area show that a lot is happening here. It is a place of both change and tradition, where community values remain alive. Stay tuned to find out how these themes will be further developed – especially as the winter days arrive and Mardi Gras preparations begin.
