Serious accident on the B122: Two injured after tree crash!
On Friday afternoon, June 27, 2025, a serious accident occurred on the B122 near Dierberg, which completely closed the road for around an hour and a half. At around 2:30 p.m. a Skoda left the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree. The two occupants, a 69-year-old driver and a 64-year-old passenger, were slightly injured and had to be taken to hospital immediately.
The rescue workers were quickly on site, including two rescue helicopters that were used as emergency medical services. While the fire brigade ensured fire protection and secured the accident site, the resulting material damage was estimated at around 20,000 euros. The incident was ended around 4:13 p.m., as stau.info reported, because shortly after the accident the B122 between Dierberg and the turnoff to Heinrichsdorf was free again.
Accident statistics and background
The B122 is a heavily frequented road that is important not only for traffic in the region, but also for national traffic. The increase in traffic numbers has led to an increase in traffic accidents in Germany in recent decades. According to Statista, there were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in Germany alone in 2023. Although most accidents involve property damage, the number of accidents resulting in personal injury remains constant, which is a cause for concern.
The most common causes of accidents are often insufficient distance, inappropriate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. In 2023, there were around 15,700 alcohol-related accidents with personal injuries. Traffic accidents on motorways and federal roads, such as the B122, have a much higher number of accidents than on state or district roads.
A look ahead
In view of these figures, the EU transport ministers are aiming for “Vision Zero” to have no more traffic fatalities by 2050. It is particularly important to increase safety on the roads and take preventative measures to avoid accidents. It is the responsibility of every individual road user to contribute to safe coexistence.
It remains to be hoped for residents and commuters that the recent events will lead to increased awareness of road traffic and that such incidents can be avoided in the future.
