Rheinsberg Fire Department – A long history
The Rheinsberg Volunteer Fire Department has an eventful history behind it. It was founded on September 18, 1875, largely by members of the local gymnastics club. Fire protection has a tradition in Rheinsberg; the risk of fire was already a major issue in the Middle Ages. As early as 1740, a city fire devastated many houses, which underlined the need for effective firefighting measures. The first major step towards improving fire protection was the establishment of voluntary fire departments in the 19th century, which often emerged from gymnastics clubs. This development took place due to inadequate compulsory fire brigades, which were often lacking at the time.
Today the Rheinsberg fire department consists of several local fire departments that are active in the various districts, including Basdorf, Braunsberg, Dierberg and many more. The fire department leadership under Fred Kuball and his deputies Mathias Herzberg and Robert Pape ensure that the comrades are well trained and that the youth fire brigade with dedicated youth wardens in districts such as Rheinsberg and Linow is constantly growing.
The fire department's entire spectrum ranges from technical assistance to youth work, which is supported by support associations in order to further promote camaraderie and tradition. With all of this, Rheinsberg lives up to its status as one of the lively and active cities in Brandenburg. In all of these celebrations, it is also important to recognize the volunteer work of the firefighters, which is essential for the safety of all citizens.
A look at the upcoming festivities shows once again how important and valuable the work of the volunteer fire department is for the community. Let's celebrate together and let the history of the Rheinsberg fire department live on!
