Serious accidents on the A24: rescue helicopters in constant use!
Last Sunday there were several accidents, some of them serious, on Autobahn 24 in Brandenburg, more specifically between the Neuruppin and Neuruppin-Süd junctions. As Tag24 reports, the first serious incident was reported at around 5:57 p.m. and a rescue helicopter was quickly dialed into the scene. Initially, however, there was no information about any injuries or the exact course of the accident. The left lane in the direction of Berliner Ring had to be closed, which led to a traffic jam with waiting times of up to an hour. Drivers familiar with the area were asked to avoid the area as much as possible to avoid further complications.
The day got off to an unfortunate start: the first accident occurred at 1:25 p.m. when a Toyota driver crashed into a Lexus due to insufficient safety distance. Immediately afterwards, a VW drove into the rear of a Hyundai for the same reason, injuring a 62-year-old. This series of rear-end collisions ended when a Ford drove too quickly into the accident area and collided with the VW. The material damage amounts to around 37,000 euros, and the affected section of the route was only reopened at 2:49 p.m.
But Autobahn 24 had even more to offer this weekend. According to RBB24, another serious accident occurred on Saturday between the Herzsprung and Neuruppin junctions. A 30-year-old driver was traveling too fast and skidded. His vehicle first crashed into the center guardrail, then broke through the wildlife protection fence and overturned. In this incident, two men and a woman were seriously injured and transported to hospital in Neuruppin. A rescue helicopter was also used here and the road leading to Berlin had to be temporarily closed.
Autobahn 24 is particularly known for its accident frequency. A speed limit of 130 km/h was only lifted in March 2023 because the number of accidents had previously been reduced. However, this road has a tragic history: in June 2024, three people died in an overtaking accident, followed by another fatal accident in July in which a 27-year-old driver died after braking sharply. Defects in road safety and the behavior of road users are also reflected in the statistics recorded by destatis.de. These include not only the accidents themselves, but also the people and vehicle types involved as well as the causes and consequences of the accident.
Recent events on the highway reinforce the need for increased measures to improve road safety and urge drivers to be vigilant and respectful of current traffic rules. After all, the right behavior on the road can mean the difference between arriving safely and an unfortunate incident.
