Neuruppin will start construction of a teacher training center in 2025!
Neuruppin has big plans: a new training and further education center for teachers is being built in the city. The opening is planned for 2026. The new building will be built on the site of the state authority center on Fehrbelliner Straße and is intended to become a central training center for prospective teachers from the districts of Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Prignitz, Oberhavel and Havelland. The MAZ reports that construction will begin this year should.
The new educational facility will provide comprehensive training and continuing education opportunities for schools in the region. In addition, modern co-working areas, individual and silent workstations as well as seven seminar rooms and a digital laboratory will be set up. The total usable area is 672 square meters. With a cost of around seven million euros, the construction is being carried out by the Hoch- und Tiefbau Wittstock company, which received the contract after an application process.
Overview of the new training center
The training center will be the fourth full-fledged location of the Brandenburg State Institute for Schools and Teacher Training (Libra), which was founded in 2024. The educational institutions are currently working at the interim location on Neustädter Straße, where 26 teacher candidates and 144 lateral entrants are currently being trained. This interim solution shows that there is an urgent need to renew the training infrastructure in order to meet the need for qualified teachers on site.
Another aspect of the new training center is the individual support of the teacher candidates. The training is carried out by experienced training coaches and specialist trainers who provide specialist knowledge and personal inspiration throughout the entire training process. This is done, among other things, through internships and participation in state examinations. This ensures high-quality education from which the schools and ultimately the students will benefit. The [Brandenburg state government](https://mbjs.brandenburg.de/bildung/lehrin-lehr-in-brandenburg/lehrkraefte-grundstaendige-bildung/preparation service/studienseminare-paedagogische-zentren.html) emphasizes that the teachers in the training centers in the state of Brandenburg are trained from a didactic perspective.
A long road back to teacher training
The restoration of a teacher training location in Neuruppin is a clear benefit for the region's educational offerings. After the closure of the previous teacher training college in 2008, which led to a significant shortage of trainees, parents, teacher representatives and politicians argued loudly for the reopening of teacher training. These demands were taken up in 2023 by the then Education Minister Britta Ernst, who held out the prospect of a return to teacher training in Neuruppin.
The new seminar will not only improve the training of future teachers, but also help to increase the attractiveness of Neuruppin as a place to live and work. With this project, the region shows that it is ready to invest in the future of its education. With the opening of the training center, Neuruppin is gaining a significant advantage in the race for the best minds in education.
