Signatures against closure: Wusterhausen family center in danger!
An impressive resistance against the threatened closure of the local family centers is currently being organized in Wusterhausen and Kyritz. These facilities are not only an important meeting point for families, but also central contact points for parents with young children. Many voices are being raised to point out the value of these centers, which, with their diverse offerings, significantly improve the quality of life for families in the region.
Signature collections are currently taking place in Wusterhausen. As the Märkische Allgemeine [reports](https://www.maz-online.de/lokales/ostprignitz-ruppin/wusterhausen/in-wusterhausen-und-kyritz- Werden-unterschrift-gegen-das-aus-der-familienzentren-gesammelt-FH7YDCN2XBCCFBEBJQDI37EVWI.html?outputType=valid_amp), more than 60 concerned people have already received theirs Signature made. One of the initiators is Emily, 35, who emphasizes the importance of the “Mittendrin” family center. The facility, which has existed since February 2016, offers a variety of events and brings mothers and their children together in a relaxed atmosphere. Here parents can chat about topics such as stomach aches, teething or the latest toys.
A place for exchange and well-being
Janine, 33, from Neustadt (Dosse), regularly uses the toddler group to exchange ideas. She and other mothers appreciate the ambience in the center, which is created by Bettina Archut, the coordinator, and her colleague Sandra Strunk. “Friendships and networks are created here,” says Archut. The weekly events range from a healthy family breakfast to toddler sports to a senior afternoon with games. These formats help families from the region to meet and exchange ideas.
But the joy of these offers could soon be a thing of the past. The district has decided to only finance mobile help for families from 2026, which will lead to the closure of the stationary family centers. Critics like Janine and other mothers express concerns that the mobility of the offers cannot replace valuable social exchange. “What’s the point if the offers are no longer on site?” asks another worried mother.
The value of family centers
The importance of family centers is also reflected in numbers. In 2024, over 5,500 visits were counted at the centers in Kyritz and Wusterhausen. This underlines the importance of these facilities. According to the Bildungsserver, family centers are hubs that bring together education, upbringing and care. They not only offer space for children, but also support for parents, which is particularly important in the first phase of parenthood.
Coordinator Bettina Archut emphasizes that the “Mittendrin” family center is not just a place for the little ones, but also plays an important role in the social fabric of the community. However, this commitment is now in jeopardy. The district council's youth welfare committee will discuss the planned realignment of family support in mid-September. It remains to be seen whether the voices of concerned parents will be heard.
The continued existence of the facilities depends crucially on the support of the population. The signature campaigns are a first step in showing decision-makers how important the family centers are for the community. In Wusterhausen and Kyritz, people work together to fight for their children and families. Because here it becomes clear: A strong network is essential for good cooperation, and the family centers are the heart of it.
