On October 18, 2025, an unpleasant topic will be discussed in Kyritz: the attack on the Star gas station, which occurred on December 18, 2024. In this incident, two hooded men, around 1.80 to 1.90 meters tall and slim, entered the gas station while only one employee was present. With a pistol in his hand, one of the perpetrators demanded cash and put the woman in an extremely threatening situation. However, there has been more than just this one incident in the region recently. On June 12, 2025, the gas station on Straße der Jugend was robbed. Here, an unknown perpetrator also earned the gas station's daily revenue, always under the banner of a pistol-like weapon. Although the attack on the gas station in Kyritz and the gas station on Straße der Jugend made headlines, the police crime statistics for 2024 give reason for hope. The statistics show a pleasing decline in robberies at gas stations. Only 513 robberies were registered in 2024, which is the lowest level since reunification. Although this decline could be due to better protected cash register systems and falling cash sales, the “perceived crime” is often exceeded by the real crime rate.
