New DLRG center in Oranienburg: A celebration for life savers!
The wait is over: On Saturday, November 29th, the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) will open its new building on Heidelberger Straße in Oranienburg. The move-in celebrations coincide with the 30th birthday of the DLRG local group. Over 200 members are looking forward to their new home after their tenancy at Takeda ended on September 30th and the old accommodation no longer met their requirements. Maz Online reports that the construction work took a total of two years, although not all rooms will be completed by the opening date.
With an area of around 800 square meters, the new center offers spacious rooms, including a board and seminar room, a large kitchen and two relaxation rooms for up to 16 people. Barrier-free toilet facilities are also provided. If necessary, the seminar room can be divided into smaller areas, which increases flexibility for different events. These rooms can also be used by other institutions and clubs, which gives the DLRG local group an additional social connection.
Construction and financing
The total costs for the project amount to around 2.2 million euros, although the original calculation was 1.6 million euros. The largest part of this sum – around 1.7 million euros – comes from the state of Brandenburg, while another 200,000 euros comes from the city treasury. 355,000 euros were also made available via KfW loans. The DLRG itself contributes almost 500,000 euros to the construction costs. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke presented the DLRG local group with a symbolic check for almost 1 million euros from the “Golden Plan Brandenburg”, which supports investments in sports clubs and provides a total of 25 million euros between 2021 and 2025 Volunteering in Brandenburg reported.
An important reason for the new building was the inadequate space in the old station, which was no longer sufficient for the club's work and the training of lifeguards. Until now, due to these restrictions, only small groups could be trained - a time-consuming process that is now made much easier with the new options. New swimming courses are also on the agenda, as is increased training in first aid and lifeguarding.
Improved conditions for members
The DLRG Oranienburg local group has plans to increase the number of children and youth groups in order to increase the club's attractiveness. The expansion of dry storage options for emergency equipment such as motorboats and logistics trailers is also part of the new infrastructure. “We urgently need space in order to be able to organize our work more efficiently,” explains a representative of the DLRG. Maz Online also points out that the new rooms are not only accessible to the DLRG, but also to other organizations.
The first first aid course is scheduled for December 13th, followed by an internal event on December 18th. Furniture from the old rooms is initially used for furnishing, while new furnishings are gradually purchased. Despite minor construction delays, for example due to problems with the tiling company and the painting work, the members of the DLRG-Oranienburg are looking forward to a new chapter in their club's history.
A permanent location - a big step: The opening of the new DLRG center in Oranienburg sets the course for an active future in water rescue services and the training of young people who develop the necessary knowledge and skills to save lives underwater in an emergency.
